In response to misinformation campaigns on the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines, the African Alliance partnered with SAMRC, Department of Science & Innovation, the Vaccine Advocacy Resource Group and Peoples Vaccine Alliance Africa to generate a series of information tools to build confidence in vaccines in general and COVID-19 vaccines in particular. This is part of the Alliance’s work to ensure that communities of faith are included in the work we do to build communities and networks that believe in science and the right to health, life and dignity!
The Islamic origins of many medical innovations are too often ignored, with the credit given solely to Western academics. Both the Pfizer-BioNTech and the Johnson & Johnson vaccines available in South Africa have been approved as halal by various Islamic scholars, including the Jamiatul-Ulema.
